Bathroom Pendant Lights
Bathroom pendant lights are distinct light fixtures designed with added protection against moist and humid environments. They are similar to pendants for outdoor use and are top choices for general interior lighting in commercial and business spaces.
These lights aren’t limited in style, shape, colour, and finish. They undergo meticulous manufacturing processes to ensure safe operation even when used near showers. Many are made of high-quality glass, acrylic, and other materials that aren’t susceptible to humidity and temperature changes. However, due to the advancement of technology, few bathroom pendant lights made from treated wood and coated metal are now emerging in the market, increasing the diversity of pendant range for powder room, toilet, washroom, and lavatory applications.
Zest Lighting humbly presents to you our handpicked collection of bathroom pendant lights that elevate the appeal of your private space. From classic-styled hanging lights to the all-new modern innovative pendants, browse our selection of bathroom pendant lights and find the ideal lighting that completes your restroom’s beauty.
If you have questions or have a particular suggestion you want to share, don’t hesitate to contact us.
Lights for bathrooms are mostly functional lighting, emitting enough brightness to safely execute everyday actions such as showering, shaving, and bathing. Hence, most people would see downlights and wall lights in commercial and residential restrooms rather than pendant lights. Nonetheless, bathroom pendant lights are still essential in this intimate space, especially when you’re concerned about creating proportional layers of light.
Why are Bathroom Pendant Lights Special
As previously stated, bathroom pendant lights are made to withstand moist and humid environments. They’re similar to outdoor pendant lights to a certain degree. How? Here are a few of their iconic characteristics:
- Pendants for bathroom use have high IP ratings.
For a quick introduction, IP ratings, or Ingress Protection ratings, is a scale that classifies the degree of protection implemented on certain electrical equipment. It consists of two digits that denote the level of protection the item has against entry of solid foreign objects (first digit) such as crumbs and dust, and liquid foreign objects (second digit) like raindrops and dew, to the item’s internal circuits.
There are many opinions on how high a pendant light’s IP rating should be for it to be safe for bathroom use. The basis for these opinions is the current domestic lighting installation standards published by Standards Australia. Some argue that pendant lights for bathroom applications do not necessarily need a high IP rating. However, we still recommend that you browse among pendants with at least an IP44 rating if you plan to install them anywhere in your bathroom that is not above any water source. For installation on the remaining spaces, such as directly above the sink or bathtub, use pendants with a minimum rating of IP55.
- Most bathroom pendant lights are made of non-rusting and non-corrosive materials.
To meet the requirements for ingress protection, most manufacturers use materials that won't rust, wear down, or corrode after frequent exposure to moisture for creating bathroom pendant lights. Due to this requirement, you will see that most bathroom pendant lights have shades and bodies made of glass, acrylic, or ceramic years ago.
Back then, it was rare to see bathroom-specific pendants with wooden or pure metal outer components unless they’ve undergone pre-treatment to combat moisture and humidity. Pre-treatment usually includes plating and layering for metal pendant lights or coating for wooden and rattan pendants, all of which are methods that demand additional costs and labour at a manufacturing level. Fortunately, with the advancement in technology and production, wooden pendants, rattan pendants, metal pendants, and bamboo pendants are now regularly seen in the bathroom pendant light market. On the other hand, fabric pendant lights remain the least likely recommended for bathroom and wetroom use.
