What is a GU10 Bulb?
‘GU10’ simply refers to the name of the cap fittings of these light bulbs. They have two little pins that stick out from the bottom in a square-ish shape and are 10mm apart. The pins work by pushing and twisting them into place so that the light bulb stays in place and does not drop out (this is especially important for spotlight bulbs that are often facing downwards).
In most houses these days, you'll come across a lot of spotlights and the one that's found more often than not is the GU10 Bulb. Make sure you don't mix up a GU10 bulb and an MR16 one. They seem pretty much the same, except for their caps - an MR16 has smaller pins that look like needles and won't work with a GU10 lamp.
3 Types of GU10 Bulbs
There are 3 main types of GU10 bulbs: the halogens GU10 Bulbs, sometimes called 'incandescents', then there are CFLs (Compact Fluorescent Lamps), and the newest technology that’s being used in most modern houses these days are LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes).
Energy-efficient LED GU10 Spotlights
The GU10 halogen bulb is super efficient and gives off great light, so it's used a lot in industries where they need things to be extra bright. But the downside is that it gets crazy hot while working, which makes it won’t last long as we'd like and there’s a tendency to replace them more often.
The good news is that LED GU10 is a better replacement for GU10 halogen bulbs. You're absolutely right! GU10 bulbs feature LED varieties that are eco-friendly and cost-effective so you can cut down your electricity expenses and minimize your ecological impact. Even better, they possess an extended lifespan that frees you from the hassle of frequently replacing bulbs. People use GU10 LED bulbs all the time in homes, businesses, and factories because it uses less power than those boring old halogens.
Dimmable Options for GU10 Bulbs
It's worth noting that both GU10 halogen bulbs and LED GU10 bulbs can be dimmed to your desired brightness level. Halogen bulbs are generally compatible with most dimmers, but doing so will shorten its lifespan which is often a consequence of reducing the light output. On the other hand, there might be a few specific compatibility requirements for certain types of dimmers, but still LED bulb is your best bet if you're looking for longevity and lets you control the brightness. So why not switch over to an energy-efficient option with a much longer service life today?
GU10 LED color-changing bulbs
LED bulbs are the only ones that can handle color changing because other types like halogen can't handle the heat. But with a GU10 LED bulb, you get different shades just by adjusting the flow of current through its three built-in LEDs.Just like with 6W Elliptical Reflector Tricolour GU10 LED Bulb, there are 3 colours to choose from.
Colour Temperatures
So we talked about how these spotlight bulbs can come in different colors and each colour is for a specific task. Always remember, the colour temperature is measured in Kelvin (K). You will mostly find this on the product’s specification and we always make sure to have this detail readily available on our website. And below is a quick guide on which color to use for each room in your home.
Living Room: When it comes to lighting up your room for relaxation, there's nothing quite like the classic warmth and cozy ambience of traditional incandescent bulbs. Then go for a colour temperature that is between 2700K-3000K Warm White. This gives off a nice warm yellowish light that sets the mood for chillin' out after a tough day or just kicking back and enjoying some downtime.
Kitchen: For creating an inviting and bright atmosphere in your kitchen, cool white light bulbs are a must-have. So opt for 4000K Cool White colour temperature. Not only this emit a crisp, neutral white glow that eliminates any color distortion, but they also make your food appear more vibrant and appetizing. If you go for cool white spotlights instead of the usual warm-toned lighting choices, your kitchen will look sharp and stylish without sacrificing functionality.
Bedroom: Again, a soothing and soft yellow light (2700K Warm White) is most appropriate for bedrooms. You may also consider setting up dimmable spotlight bulbs to enjoy the extra perk of lowering the brightness as per your need.
Bathroom: As we previously stated, cool white (4000K) light doesn't have any noticeable color and works great for putting on makeup or shaving.
