MR16 Bulbs
For directional lighting in residential and commercial areas, MR16 light fixtures are the go-to choice. The abbreviation "MR" stands for the multifaceted reflector responsible for regulating the direction and range of light emitted from an MR16 bulb. The reason why these bulbs remain a popular option lies in their precise center beam intensity and exceptional control over beams' directions. Additionally, adjusting the brightness level and color temperature of your space's ambiance has become relatively easy with properly installed dimmers complementing MR16 bulbs’ features!
But are you aware that MR16 light bulbs usually function at 12 volts? While it's true, they can also work with other voltages. Typically running on low voltage, MR16 bulbs may need a power transformer to operate optimally. Although most of these lamps come equipped with Halogen bulbs today, there are alternative options like the more efficient and versatile MR16 LED lighting solutions available for consumers who desire even better quality performance!
What is an MR16 Bulb?
When it comes to directional lighting, the MR16 light fixture is a dependable spotlight that can cater to both residential and commercial spaces. What sets these lights apart is the multifaceted reflector - abbreviated as "MR" - that expertly controls the direction and spread of illumination emitted from an MR16 lamp. Thanks to this cutting-edge technology, you'll enjoy precise center beam intensity and full control over your beam's trajectory. Plus, with compatible dimmers and suitable fixtures in place, you can easily adjust the brightness levels or color temperature to suit your unique preferences.
MR16 light bulbs usually work with 12 volts, but you can find them in different voltages too. They run on low voltage and may need a power transformer to do their job right. Nowadays most people use MR16 lamps that come with Halogen lights, although there are other choices like MR16 LED lights which have lots of advantages for users.
2 Types of MR16 Base
GU10 - this MR16 Bulb base is the one that twists and runs on 120 volts.
GU5.3 - has a push-to-fit design that usually needs 12 volts.
Just a quick reminder, different bulbs have different voltages, so always double-check if your fixture can handle both the fitting and voltage before you buy anything. Also, If you're changing your low-voltage Halogen MR16 with an LED, there's a chance you'll need to switch up the transformer too. A lot of power supplies need at least 20 Watts to work properly. So make sure to always check the load capabilities listed on your current transformer before making any changes. But still, it is best to play it safe by hiring an electrician to help out with anything electrical-related.
MR16 Halogen Light Bulbs
MR16 Halogen bulbs give off really bright and clear light and are long-lasting, from 2,000-6,000 hours, but less energy-efficient than fluorescent or LED lamps. They can also become very hot and pose a fire risk near flammable objects.
MR16 LED Light Bulbs
As LED light bulbs gain more popularity, there are now many MR design LED bulbs you can buy these days that work just as fine as the old Halogen ones. They come in different designs with varying beam widths, colors, efficiency levels, and brightness too! MR16 LED light bulbs use only half the power of MR16 Halogen bulbs and can last up to 100,000 hours. This means you won't have to keep changing your bulbs as you do with Halogens, which typically burn out after 2,000-6,000 hours. Plus, they need less maintenance in the long run. It's no wonder why many of our customers are making the switch!
