Chrome Pendant Lights
Look for chrome pendant lights if you prefer a hanging light with a reflective and metallic sheen for modern and contemporary settings or if you simply want an ideal alternative for your silver pendant light.
Since most fittings and amenities found in canteens have chrome finishes, chrome pendant lights are often installed in series or as solo lighting over kitchen islands and in galleys. However, they can also become impressive hallway and entryway hanging lights because of chrome’s cool undertone, introducing soothing and refreshing vibes to the space.
Many chrome pendant lights in our collection are metal plated. Some undergo additional finishing touches, such as brushing, polishing, and ageing. Others are fully coated with chrome paint, forming another protective barrier. Regardless of your choice, you can find a chrome pendant that suits your space here at Zest Lighting.

CHROME VS OTHER FINISHES
To some, chrome, silver, and nickel finishes might be interchangeable terms. After all, when one refers to chrome finishes, it’s either (1) coated with chrome paint or (2) layered with a material that is made with chrome metal. Similar circumstances can be said when thinking about silver and nickel finishes. Because of their analogous tones, it’s not surprising why many people can’t distinguish them from one another. However, there are notable differences between the three, and here are just a few of them:
- Reflectivity: Among the three metals, chrome exhibits the most reflective properties. Hence, if used as an outer layer, the chrome metal finishes are often referred to as “mirror-like” due to their surfaces that are capable of bringing our light reflections. In contrast, nickel finishes have a muted shine, bordering matt compared to chrome. Silver finishes lie in between the two. They can have a very reflective surface to a certain degree, but most of the time, they reflect a blurred and dull image.
- Undertone: Chrome and silver have cool undertones. On the other hand, nickel has a warm undertone. This is why chrome and silver finishes look dashing with refreshing, cosy, and soothing interior styles. Meanwhile, nickel-finished furniture and decors look remarkable in spaces with a warm colour palette. If your room has a neutral colour scheme, a balance of cool and warm colours can make it look comfy and inviting at the same time.
- Marking: Due to its shiny and reflective surface, scratches and other marks on chrome-finished products are easily noticeable; some may even stain for a long time. There are cleaning agents that could do a temporary fix, so regular maintenance is necessary if your chrome pendant light receives visible marks. On the other hand, marks on silver and nickel finishes aren’t as visible as the ones on chrome finishes, though they may also require regular maintenance and cleaning when the stains are severe enough.
- Rusting and Tarnishing: Having a rusted covering and losing lustre is one of the regular occurrences that can mar a pendant’s beauty. Fortunately, chrome finishes are immune to these phenomena to a certain extent. Although it loses sparkle easily, a little maintenance and cleaning can bring back its lost shine. However, this isn’t the same for pendants with silver and nickel finishes, especially if these lights are often exposed to acidic and salty environments.
- Durability: If you want a pendant with a durable finish, chrome pendants might not be a perfect choice. Better opt for nickel and silver-toned pendants, as these lights keep their original appearances longer than chrome pendant lights. This is due to a number of factors, e.g. frequent cleaning and maintenance of chrome finishes, susceptibility to markings, etc.
TYPES OF CHROME FINISHES
- Polished: Polishing of any metal is a rough and abrasive method used when one wants to reduce the surface roughness of the material. From this, it is inferred that polished chrome pendant lights are metal pendants whose outer covering, at least, is made of chrome metal. Done manually or by machine intervention, polishing can cause the metal’s surface to look smoother, shinier, and more reflective.
- Brushed: As one of the methods to remove surface imperfections, chrome brushing as a finish is done only on chrome metal surfaces. Most brushed chrome pendants are processed using machinery, creating a uniform and parallel grain outer surface texture. The Andover Tear Drop Brushed Chrome Pendant Light and the Whitby Brushed Chrome 4 Light Hampton Pendant Light are some of the pendants in our collection that have a brushed chrome finish.
- Satin: If you want a chrome pendant with a less reflective finish, look for satin chrome pendant lights such as the Vulcan Satin Chrome Morrocan Glass Pendant, the Fisherman Satin Chrome Pendant Light, and the Phil Satin Chrome and White Cylindrical Pendant. Some customers mistake them for silver or nickel pendants since they’ve lost their definitive reflective attribute. However, the lustrous appeal of the chrome colour remains on the outer surface of satin chrome pendants.
- Painted: As one of the inexpensive finishes that can be done on any surface, chrome-painted pendant lights have the least protection against corrosion, rusting, and tarnishing when compared to others on this list. Unlike the previous chrome finishes that require chrome metal, painted chrome finishes only need oil- or water-based chrome-toned paint. Moreover, these pendants can look different despite being part of the all-encompassing term “painted” since painting a chrome colour on a surface can result in a textured, matt, or glossy look depending on the procedure it is done.
- Plated: Plating requires chemical baths to break down the composition of the surface or substrate, allowing it to take in thin layers of metal as its new outer covering. Chrome-plated pendants are lights manufactured using this process, with thin chrome metal layers placed as its new outer surface.
